How do you modify and convert requirements in Test Director?

There is no doubt in the fact that one kicks off a testing process by inputting the specification of the requirements employing the requirements module of the test director. Requirements are a necessity in the testing process. Also, the foundation on which a testing team carries out the testing process is laid down by the requirements itself. The definition of the requirements is represented in the form of what is called a requirements tree. This is actually a graphical representation of the requirements as stated in the document view with the only difference being of hierarchical display.
The requirements can be grouped as well as sorted out in a requirements tree. The following tasks can also be carried out:
  1. Task allocation monitoring.
  2. Monitoring the progress of the requirements.
  3. Generation of the detailed graphs and reports.
Once the tests have been created in the test plan module they have to be linked to the corresponding requirements.
Here in this article, we talk about the modification and conversion of the requirements in the test director.
One can modify the requirements by following the below mentioned step sequence:
  1. First, make sure that the requirements module is available on display. If in case it is not you need to open it using the requirements tab. Both the requirements tree as well as the document view will be displayed.
  2. Your next step is to copy that particular requirement to which you want to make modifications from the requirements tree by clicking on the copy option. Next clicking on the paste option and you will get a warning saying that you are duplicating the requirement. Click OK and the requirement will be pasted in the same hierarchy level as that of the original requirement. Suffix _copy_ is added to the name of the requirement.
  3. Next step, is to rename the requirement by following the usual procedure for renaming an object.
  4. Next, move this requirement to a different location but in the same requirements tree. But the requirements should be pasted as child requirement. Click OK for confirmation and drag the requirement to any location you want in the requirements tree.
  5. For deleting this requirement as well its child requirement use the delete option.
Once all the requirements have been created and defined, they can be used as a basis for providing definition of the test plan tree module. The conversion to test wizards can be used to get assistance for designing the test plan tree. Using this wizard you can convert the selected requirements from the requirement tree in to subjects or tests for the test plan tree.

Steps for conversion of Requirements

Now the below mentioned steps can be followed for the conversion of the requirements:
  1. For the modification procedure make sure that the requirements is up for display and if it is not there do so by clicking on the requirements tab.
  2. From the various requirements in the requirements tree select the one which you want to be converted.
  3. Now launch the convert to tests wizard from the tool menu and from that click on ‘convert selected’ option.
  4. You can go for the automatic conversion method by taking second option i.e., ‘convert lowest child requirements to tests’ for the conversion of the selected requirements in to tests.
  5. Now clicking on the next button will start the conversion process and after the conversion the results will be displayed in the step 2 dialog box.

What are different aspects of Compounded SQL injection attack?

Till now so many types of SQL injection attacks have been identified. But, there is one type of SQL injection type which results in to different kinds of combinations of the other SQL injection attacks. This type of SQL injection attacks are commonly known as the compound SQL injection attacks.

This type of SQL injection attack has been derived from rigorous research and experimenting with the different SQL injection attack vectors putting them in different combinations with the various other web application attacks.

Some of the most commonly employed combinations are:

1. SQL injection + XSS cross site scripting
2. SQL injection + DDos attacks
3. SQL injection + insufficient authentication
4. SQL injection + DNS hijacking

Compounded SQL Injection Attack

- SQL is a language developed for interacting with the data base of the applications and web sites.

- The functions are mainly defined to retrieve the data from the data bases or to update the contents of the existing data bases.

- It uses compound conditions basically that make use of AND or OR.

- A compound statement is used to group all the other statements so as to constitute an executable block.

- SQL variables can be declared in an atomic compound statement that has been dynamically developed.

- A compound statement can be easily embedded in to SQL functions, SQL methods, trigger etc.

- To invoke a dynamic compound statement no privileges are required, although the authorization ID of the compound statement needs to include all the privileges required invoking the other SQL statements that form a part of that particular compound statement.

- Most of the compilers compile the compound statements as one single statement since this technique proves effective for the short scripts that do not require little control flow logic though a great data flow.

- For larger scripts or constructs, it’s better to use the SQL procedures.

- The “discretize” function is quite a simple one and is often used for the classification and modification of the data and gives back a NULL value for the malicious data.

- Later this malicious data is cleansed up by the compound statement.

- Most of the mechanisms can be elaborated using the technique of multi stage cleansing.

- The advantage of the compound statement is that here the FOR loop neither does open up a cursor nor the single row inserts are treated so.

- Here the underlying logic is of a multi table insert that has been selected previously.

- This advantage is reaped by compiling the dynamic statement as a single one.

- In contrast to this dynamic compound statement, there’s another type called Compounded SQL embedded statement.

- These statements can only be embedded in to the applications.

- In contrast to the dynamic statements, these cannot be prepared dynamically.

- These statements do not required any special privileges for invocation.

What are different mutation testing methods?

Mutation testing is another methodology of software testing. It can be defined as the software testing methodology which involves modification of source code or programs or the byte code of the program in a way that is particularly small but significant.

Mutation is known by two other names:
- program mutation
- mutation analysis.

SOME IMPORTANT FACTS
- The mutated code is tested using various cases and the test suite that doesn’t detects and rejects the code that has been mutated is usually considered to be defective in nature.

- The required mutations are carried out on the basis of some well defined operators known as mutation operators.

- These mutation operators are well known to mimic typical programming bugs or errors and some times they also force the creation of tests which are significantly valuable tests.

- Best example of such test is given by the test which derives each expression to the value zero.

- The purpose of the mutation testing is basically to allow the tester or software developer to develop effective test cases so that the weaknesses or the vulnerabilities of the software system or application can be located or detected in the test data that is being used as the input for the program or in the sections of the program code.

- These sections are chosen as such that they are rarely used and accessed during the execution of the software system or the application.

- The mutation testing is carried out to ensure or verify that the implemented software program or application is correct or not.

Still the creation of the mutation testing poses some doubts.
- The doubt is whether the mutation tests are correct or not?
- Whether they sufficiently cover all the specifications and the requirements that have lead to the origination of the implementation of the test cases?

Mutation testing represents a technological problem of “who will guard the guards?”
- In the 19s, the mutation testing was pioneered to detect or locate the weaknesses and the potential vulnerabilities of the test suites.

- A theory was put forward regarding the behavior of the mutation testing.

- It stated that if a mutation was done without affecting the behavior of the program or output, then it meant that either the code that had been mutated did not execute or the employed testing suite wasn’t able to detect the injected mutation.

- In order to make one mutation work, one has to introduce many mutations all over the program.

- This in turn leads to the compilation of a large number of copies of the program code.

- The increase in the use of unit testing frame works and object oriented programming languages has led to the increase in the creation new mutation testing tools for other programming languages.

METHODS FOR MUTATION TESTING
- Mutation testing is carried out by selecting few mutation operators and then applying them to the source code using one at a time for each correct piece of the program code.

- The resultant of application of a mutation operator is known as mutant.

- If the mutant is detected during the testing, then the mutant is said to be killed.
- Strong mutation testing or strong mutation coverage ensures that the test suite is effective in detecting the mutants.
- Weak mutation coverage or weak mutation testing can be related to code coverage methods.
- It takes less number of calculations to ensure the effectiveness of the weak mutation testing.
- In some cases equivalent mutants are also used.
- In those cases it becomes impossible for a test suite to kill such a mutant.

- Equivalent mutation proves to be the greatest obstacle in the path of practical usage of the mutants.
- Equivalent mutants require more efforts for testing.
- A variety of mutation operators have been discovered by the researchers.
